About Richard...

Richard was a loving, caring husband, and a guiding light to our daughter, Anna. He was also a tremendous goofball.

 

He was a hands-on dad – caring, fun, thoughtful (and the math homework master) – all the while making sure she knew she was special and loved unconditionally, but also holding her accountable. Anna is his greatest legacy to this world as a supremely caring, compassionate, funny and amazing young woman.

Richard spent over half of his life working at Condit Exhibits, and relished his role as VP of Operations for the last 14+ years. He was a mentor to many, and a thoughtful, considerate leader. He was extremely proud of the amazing work they produced, though frequently in far less time than he would have liked. When time was tight and they needed to get projects out the door, he could be found on the shop floor or in the graphics department working alongside the crew.

He was also a skier, cyclist, hiker, sailor, vacation-planning whiz, a talented creator and master craftsman, lover of family traditions and adventures, and a KU Jayhawk freak who yelled at the TV during basketball season (or frankly, any sport that wasn't going his way). 

He loved good food, good wine, gut bier (especially in Germany), music, dogs, and spending time with family, friends and neighbors. Together, we enjoyed discovering new places and restaurants in the name of adventure: UK, Italy, France, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Aruba, Maui, and the BVIs, with more planned. 

 

He also loved to entertain, and would set the house and/or yard up 'just so,' with lighting, music, candles, and snacks - and typically far ahead of planned arrival. 

His 'word' was 'consideration' and that he had in spades for everyone. He considered how the other person felt, and made sure people were included and taken care of, always.

 

Maya Angelou's quote is particularly apropos for Richard:

'I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.'
